Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) has announced the recipients of the 2026 Quality Awards, which were held in Ballina on Friday 15 May 2026.
Work is set to begin on the replacement of two critical infrastructure assets at Maclean District Hospital. The upgrade of the hospital’s internal lift and electronic nurse call system are being undertaken simultaneously thanks to $1.6 million in funding announced by the Minns Labor Government in September 2025.
An expanded midwifery service has launched at Lismore Base Hospital, providing more women and families in Northern NSW with access to high-quality midwifery continuity of care. Under the expanded Midwifery Antenatal and Postnatal Service (MAPS) model of care, women can receive care from a known primary midwife to support them throughout their pregnancy and up to two weeks after birth.
Northern NSW Local Health District is seeking expressions of interest from the local community to join its health advisory groups and contribute to improving local health services.
Community advisory groups are established across the District to provide advice, feedback, and guidance about local health services.
Advisory groups operate in hospitals at Ballina, Byron, Lismore-Casino, Grafton, Maclean, Murwillumbah, Tweed, as well as in the Multi-Purpose Service network (Bonalbo, Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville).
Older adults across Northern NSW will benefit from a new community grants program supporting safe, accessible and inclusive physical activity, with applications now open for the Older Adults Physical Activity Grants Program.
Healthy North Coast, in partnership with Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD), is inviting eligible community organisations to apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 to deliver locally-led physical activity initiatives for older people.
Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) is strengthening its commitment to improving community health by offering free Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help people quit smoking and vaping.
Free Nicotine Replacement Therapy is available for pregnant women, all hospital patients, and clients of Rekindling the Spirit and Bullinah Aboriginal Medical Services. While smoking rates have declined over recent years, 13 per cent of adults in Northern NSW LHD, or 34,700 people, still smoke.
