On Tuesday 20 May, NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce AM hosted a special virtual event to launch the refreshed Small Acts of Kindness campaign across NSW Health.
The original campaign kicked off 10 years ago to recognise and thank our amazing staff for the little things they do every day that make a big difference. This latest version builds on that legacy, shining a light on our culture of kindness through powerful video storytelling.
These videos show just how much of an impact small acts of kindness can have on staff, patients, families and carers. They feature real, heartfelt stories from across NSW Health, shared by our staff, volunteers and patients – showing how even the smallest gesture can mean the world.
One of our own, Jason Whitton, and the team from Casino and District Memorial Hospital are featured in the campaign video.

On launch day, Casino staff gathered to watch Jason’s big screen debut. Jason’s not only a security guard – he’s a friendly face and ray of sunshine around the hospital.
The screening came with popcorn, cheers, hugs and loads of love. Staff said things like:
- “We’re exceptionally proud of Jason.”
- “The video is a spot-on reflection of what he’s like every day.”
- “Jason’s smile lights up the room and just makes your day better.”
And the group selfie attempt? Let’s just say it had us in stitches – it was a classic Gen X moment that didn't quite nail the selfie, said Casino and District Memorial Hospital Executive Officer-Director of Nursing Sandra Vidler.
