As GradStart 2026 applications open later this month, we want to shine a light on one of our amazing team members and her career story.
Back in 1993, the Tweed Daily News ran a story about Cherie Mincham after she had just completed the first Second Year Graduate Nurse Program at The Tweed Hospital Emergency Department. Fast forward more than 30 years and Cherie is now a Clinical Nurse Specialist working in the Inpatient Unit at Byron Central Hospital.
Throughout her 32-year career, Cherie has worked in all kinds of clinical settings, bringing her dedication, skills and heart to everything she does.
She’s especially passionate about mentoring new nurses.
“It’s such a great chance to encourage, support and teach those just starting out,” she said.
For Cherie, mentoring isn’t just about teaching – it’s a two-way street. She shares what she’s learned over the years while also learning from the fresh ideas and knowledge new graduates bring.
“A graduate nurse’s journey is just starting,” she said. “As a senior nurse, it’s really rewarding to be part of their excitement and optimism. You never stop learning.”
Cherie’s commitment shows how experienced nurses can make a huge difference, not just in patient care, but in helping grow the future of this profession.
GradStart 2026 applications open 17 June 2025. We can’t wait to welcome a fantastic new group of nurses and midwives to our District! |
