Our Emergency Departments are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week:

Genetic Counsellors provide medical information about genetic disorders and risks that can help individuals make personal decisions about their own health, a pregnancy, or their child or relatives health care.

Conditions that a genetic counsellor can help with include:

  • A family history of cancer
  • A genetic condition in the family
  • The chance that a person will develop a condition affecting other family members
  • Passing a condition on to their children
  • Having a partner who is a close relative and planning a pregnancy
  • Experiencing two or more miscarriages, a stillbirth or an early infant death

Access criteria: Must be aged 18 year and over. Consultation with the Clinical Geneticist is by doctor's referral only. Outreach clinics are held locally throughout the year.
